Embattled city pastor, William Muwanguzi a.k.a Pastor Kiwedde is back in police cells over allegations that he conspired in a rape incident.
Police deputy spokesperson, Judith Nabakooba said the victim is a 30 year old woman (names withheld).
Kiwedde and three other men, whose identities could not be readily established while travelling in a private car, allegedly picked up two women at MM Pub in Kabuusu, a city suburb and offered to take them for a drink.
The group later stopped at some undisclosed location in Mengo suburbs, where Kiwedde and one man reportedly left the group claiming that they were going to get the drinks.
The women told Police that they became suspicious of their actions and tried to escape.
One of them succeeded but the other was overpowered and allegedly raped by the two men. The woman who escaped immediately reported the incident to Lugala Police Post.
The woman, according to Police insists that although they did not know the other men’s identities, they were able to recognize Kiwedde who has since denied the allegations during interrogations.
Kiwedde remains in custody at the CID headquarters as the hunt for the other suspects continues.
The implicated pastor was in April charged in Makindye Chief Magistrate's Court with theft. He denied the charges.
Formerly based at Entebbe Road-based Holy Fire Church, Kiwedde recently changed his name to Paul Mwamba, according Uganda Gazette of March 23, 2012,
In May 2008, Muwanguzi was arrested at the U.S. Embassy over allegations of stealing a vehicle.
The car, a Toyota Land Cruiser, belonged to a businessperson in Masaka. It was later recovered in neighboring D.R. Congo.
Muwanguzi said his wife, a Congolese, had traveled in it.
In 2010, the embattled pastor was hunted by the Police in connection with alleged shooting at Nateete, a city suburb and the illegal possession of a gun.
According to former Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi, the Police searched Muwanguzi's home in Kibuye and recovered a gun with two bullets but he eluded arrest.
